Swedish Ericsson has announced plans to build its first fully-automated smart factory in the US. The factory will produce Advanced Antenna System radios to boost mobile network capacity and coverage, including rural coverage, as well as 5G radios for urban areas.
“With this decision we are further intensifying our investments in the US, enabling us to better serve our lead customers in North America with faster introduction and volume ramp-up of critical new 5G products”, Niklas Heuveldop said.
The company underlined in a press release that both product lines will be necessary for rapid 5G deployments in North America.
Ericsson, with one of their U.S. offices Santa Clara, is a leading provider of 5G, and a partner to SACC San Francisco-Silicon Valley.
